Religion-The Way Of Living 05

The theory of Religions....

The distribution of religion across the globe.
(Source: Encyclopedia Britannica)

After a decade of research and reading scripts in thousands of language, learning many for the same purpose and spending few lakhs on translators, I present to you....the theory of Religions.
The birth of all religions.

The west religions are marked in red, the eastern religion are marked in blue. The grey circles indicates separate religion or beliefs sprouted around the main religions.

The world's principal religions and spiritual traditions may be classified into a small number of major groups or world religions. According to the 2005 survey of Encyclopedia Britannica, the vast majority of religious and spiritual adherents follow Christianity (33.06% of world population), Islam (20.28%), Hinduism (13.33%), Chinese folk religion (6.27%) or Buddhism (5.87%). The irreligious and atheists are 14.27% and 3.97% follow indigenous tribal religions.

These spiritual traditions may be either combined into larger super-groups, or separated into smaller sub-denominations. Christianity, Islam and Judaism (and sometimes the Bahá'í Faith) are summarized as Abrahamic religions. Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism are classified as Indian religions (or Dharmic religions). Chinese folk religion, Confucianism, Taoism and Shinto are classified as East Asian religions (or Far Eastern, Chinese, or Taoic religions).

Conversely, the major spiritual traditions may be parsed into denominations:

Christianity into Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism, Oriental Orthodoxy, and Nestorianism
Islam into Sunnism, Shi'ism, Sufism, and Kharijites
Hinduism into Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism, Smartism, and others
Buddhism into Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana
Judaism into Hasidic, Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform

Some large religions in the world today are:

* Bahá'í
* Buddhism
* Christianity
* Hinduism
* Islam
* Jainism
* Judaism
* Shinto
* Sikhism
* Taoism
* Tenrikyo
* Wicca
* Zoroastrianism

Religion-The Way Of Living 05

Religion is a set of common beleifs and held by the group of people often codified as prayer and religious law. There are as many different types of religion and there are different types of people in the world. Religion has been defined in a wide variety of ways.

India is a country of many religions. Here live Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, muslims, etc. All have their various religious places spread all over the country right from kashmir to kanyakumari and bengal to rajasthan. India is a land of many religions with its deep historical roots and it is the birthplace of two great religions of the world, namely Hinduism, Buddhism. Hinduism is the dominant faith.

According to 2001 census 80.5% of the population of the country are designated Hindu. Muslims are the most prominent religious group and are an integral part of indian society. Religion-The Way Of Living 04

Peoples as of their own choises

People are either born into, or choose their own religion and so to some extent I think it is choice. I thought there more only the six major religions and some really small groups that had their own religions, but I was surprised to see how many there are.

I think its fine to worship a religion but it really annoys me when religion is forced onto adults. When I was at school I used to go to church, etc with the school and then when I was old enough I made up my own mind about religion. But Jehovah’s Witnesses’ still call round and even when you tell them that you’re quite happy with your religion (and the way you are) they won’t accept it and try to talk you round! Surely this is being too religious.

I know they’re not trying to force anyone into their religion but isn’t too religious to be under the perception that everyone will be convinced to change a huge part of themselves (i.e their religion)  just because you’re asking them to? Surely there are other ways to talk people round (e.g. radio/TV programmes that are optional to listen to!)?

I think being too religious includes anything radical that is forced onto others like terrorism and certain cults (e.g. ritual killings). Being too religious in a good way would be choosing to read your religions holy book everyday, going to church everyday, following certain rules (e.g. Sabbath) which doesn’t affect anyone else’s life. But I think it’s ‘being bad’ when people make it their job to force something onto other people who’ve already made their choices.

Religion-The Way Of Living 03

Most religions teach people to be good and to help each other, but unfortunately religions also sometimes create problems. This is partly because the questions of religion are so important to people, and because it is difficult to be sure which answers are correct.

Many people are unhappy when other people do not agree with their ideas about religion, or when they think that people will cause problems for their religion.

When this happens, people sometimes make wars against people of other religions, or punish people who do not agree with their ideas about religion. This has happened many times in history, and continues to happen today.

At other times, wars have been begun for more selfish reasons that had really nothing to do with religion, but in order to win more support for these wars, the kings or politicians would try hard to make it seem to be about religion, or would give the people a supposedly 'religious' reason for fighting a war.

Many religions build buildings for their people to meet. In different religions, these buildings may be called churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, pathis, or shrines. Some of the oldest and most famous buildings are religious buildings.

Someone who does not believe in any religion, or who is unsure about the existence of a God or gods, may be called an atheist or agnostic.

Religion-The Way Of Living 02

Many religions are very old, but new religions are always being created when some people aren't satisfied with the answers from the old religions.

Things which are considered important and good by religions are called sacred or holy. Many religions have sacred books that give the most important ideas and stories of their religions.
Religions often teach how people should behave in order to live happily together and/or to please the God/gods they believe in.

Many religions believe that people who live in the right way will go to a pleasant place, or heaven, after they die, or that people who live in a wrong way will go to a bad place, or hell. How long one stays in these places is different in different religions.

Hindus and Buddhists believe in temporary heavens and hells, where people go for being either extremely righteous or extremely evil, before uniting with God. Christians and Muslims, on the other hand, believe that once someone goes to heaven or hell, they remain there forever.

Some religions believe in Resurrection - that God will bring some, most, or all dead people alive again one day; while other religions believe in Reincarnation - that people will be born again as a new person or as an animal after they die. Usually, how a person acts in their previous life affects the way in which they are reincarnated or resurrected. Some religions believe a mixture of all of these ideas.

Religion-The Way Of Living 01

Religion is a word for the ideas about the basic structure of the world that people cannot see or know with our other senses, or that scientists cannot study with machines.

There are many different religions in the world. Religions try to answer important but mysterious questions like "Where did the world come from?" and "What happens to us after we die?" When people believe that they have answers to these questions, they often start new religions, or add their new ideas to old religions.

Many religions believe in supernatural beings such as spirits, angels, devils, polytheistic gods, or a monotheistic god, who can influence people and the world. People who teach or write about religion often say that they got their ideas from a supernatural being.
